The 30 million players strong car football mash-up title, Rocket League is set to celebrate its second anniversary next month. In commemoration, Psyonix announced the arrival of a brand new free update for the game during the Rocket League Championship Series season three event.
The aptly titled 'Anniversary Update' brings to the game a brand new arena, Champions Field. This brightly lit standard map, with its triple-decker seating for all those egg shaped spectators, is showcased in the new trailer seen below. Once added, the map will be on rotation in all playlists available in the game, completely for free.
Adding to the range of Battle-Cars already available in the game, the update will introduce two new ones, the Animus GP and Centio V17, which will be available via the new Overdrive Crate. In addition to Battle-Cars, these crates will include wheels, decals as well as Black Market items for use and trade.
Moreover, some brand new customization options will launch alongside the update, such as the fan-requested 'Engine Audio' system for modifying car sounds, new goal explosions, along with the ability to personalize the ground trails that appear behind a car when it reaches supersonic speeds (independent of rocket trails).
The update will also add 18 new music tracks courtesy of independent Canadian music label Monstercat, for the new Rocket League Radio feature, which the developer promises to release more information about, in the future.
The Rocket League Anniversary Update is dropping on July 5, and marks the start of Competitive Season 5, giving all players a month to get their in-game ranks as high as possible before the onset of the new season.
