With Rocket League reaching an astounding 34 million players in just two years since its release, the developer, Psyonix, is introducing a new automated banning system to the game to further combat toxic behavior. The announcement arrived via a blog post by the developer, in which it said:
As our community grows larger still, so too does the need to ensure that Rocket League is a consistently-safe, harassment-free place where players of all ages and backgrounds can come together and execute the sweetest of aerial goals and backflip saves.
To achieve this, the game now sports a 'Language Ban' system, which will monitor reported players for the use of various offensive words and phrases from multiple languages, with the list of words being expanded over time. "Each word has its own threshold, and once a threshold for any word has been reached, that player will be automatically subject to a ban," elaborated the developer.
Offending players that are caught by the system will first face a 24-hour ban, with repeated offenses increasing the time banned to 72 hours, one week, followed by a final permanent ban.
Psyonix said that the need for an automated system to monitor players stemmed from the thousands of in-game abuse and harassment reports it receives every day, and added that the new system will allow them to improve the response time to such reports. Lastly, the developer urged players to keep reporting any abusive players they meet in Rocket League and to let the developer take care of the rest.
