On April 1st, THQ announced Saints Row: The Third - Enter the Dominatrix as an April Fool's joke. In early May, THQ revealed that the "joke" was going to become a full stand alone $29.99 expansion for the popular open world action game. Today, THQ announced that the expansion has been cancelled.
Instead, the content that would have been part of Enter the Dominatrix will be included in the next full Saints Row game, which is currently under development at THQ's Volition studio. It's one of the first big decisions that has been made since THQ hired former Naughty Dog co-founder Jason Rubin to be its president in late May.
In the press release, Rubin said:
When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise. I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.
The storyline for the expansion pack was to feature an alien warlord named Zinyak, who wants to invade Earth. However, for some odd reason, he thinks that the Third Street Saints gang, which are now a global force, might be able to stop him.
