Samsung Electronics has announced the launch of its latest radio for its line of 5G solutions. This addition is built in a way that allows mobile operators to deploy 5G networks without facing major issues.
The latest One Antenna Radio was announced at the company's virtual public event, Samsung Networks: Redefined, and incorporates integrated antennas that allow operators to accelerate 5G installations by merging a 3.5GHz Massive MIMO radio with mid-band and low-band passive antennas into a single form factor.
This radio will aid in saving space and allow ease of installation and reduction of OPEX for operators to tackle diverse site and environmental challenges. It will enable operators to save on maintenance costs, rental, and other expenses by requiring less space on towers and sites with a smaller footprint. With this solution, there is no need to install and connect multiple antennas and radios separately, which makes the deployment of 5G networks easier. Its streamlined build employs compact hardware and mitigates hardware elements and cabling as well.
Senior Vice President and Head of Product Strategy, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, Wonil Roh stated:
We are proud to introduce our One Antenna Radio to provide industry-leading performance that’s designed to address various deployment environments. Recognizing that mounting hardware, cabling, crew site time and space limitations are a challenge for most operators, we created a solution to help tackle this issue, and expand deployment boundaries.
This 5G solution will be added to the tech giant's Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio at the start of 2022 and will be commercially available in the European market, initially.
