Samsung to now supply the majority of NAND flash memory and the media chip for Apple's iPod
After PortalPlayer Inc. received what amounts to a death blow last week when Apple decided not to use their chip for next generation iPod devices, Samsung is now bragging that it has won the contract with Apple. From EETimes:
At the SEMI Strategic Business Conference on Wednesday, Samsung disclosed that it won the iPod business. "I knew PortalPlayer would take a dive," said Jon Kang, senior vice president for the technical marketing group at Samsung Semiconductor Inc. (San Jose, Calif.), the U.S. chip arm of South Korea's Samsung (Seoul). "I knew that we would win this design."
