Smartwatches, though perhaps interesting to own, may not be feature-packed enough for the average consumer to consider buying one. This is why differentiating aspects are often baked into such products, and Samsung's latest patent suggests the firm has found another possible unique attribute.
Picked up by Russian website 3Dnews.ru, Samsung's patent was filed to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in March of last year, but only published in late March of this year. Simply dubbed "Display Device and Smart Watch", the patent - shown in the picture above - outlines a smart wearable with a display on its wristband. This could be best compared to the Edge screen on the Galaxy S7 edge and prior models.
What's perhaps more puzzling is that in one schematic, the smart device features a camera mounted in the center of the display. Even more odd is the fact that the camera actually features optical zoom, meaning it can protrude from its enclosure to presumably take higher quality snaps of subjects that are further away from the device.
Whether or not this will actually come to fruition in the near future is anyone's guess.
