After a couple of months of rumors, Samsung today held a Galaxy Unpacked event to unveil its new Galaxy Book Pro family of laptops, consisting of the Galaxy Book Pro clamshell and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 convertible. The new laptops come with the latest silicon from Intel, featuring either an Intel Core i5 or i7, along with Iris Xe graphics. Each model comes in 13-inch and 15-inch variants.
A standout feature of both the Galaxy Book Pro 360 is the Super AMOLED display, while the Galaxy Book Pro has an AMOLED display, all of which are Full HD (1920x1080). AMOLED display are still somewhat rare in the PC space, so that's something Samsung has going for its devices. The displays are also Eye Care-certified by SGS, and Samsung is also touting an intelligent color engine, which will change color profiles based on your usage. More vivid colors will be used when watching movies or playing games, but it will switch to more true-to-life colors when doing color-sensitive work. Additionally, the Galaxy Book Pro 360 comes with a full-sized S Pen that you can use for doodling and taking notes on the PC.
The Galaxy Book Pro family supports LTE across the board, and the Galaxy Book Pro 360 13-inch also supports 5G if you need faster internet outside your home. They also come with Wi-Fi 6E support and Bluetooth 5.1, which you'd expect from Tiger Lake PCs.
Portability and durability are a big focus for Samsung, with the 13-inch Galaxy Book Pro weighing in at just 0.87kg (1.92lbs), and the heaviest of the devices, the 15-inch Galaxy Book Pro 360, maxing out at 1.36kg (just under 3lbs). Both devices meet MIL-STD-810G durability requirements for drops, high and low temperatures, temperature shock, humidity, dust, and low pressure.
The Galaxy Book Pro with a set of unique software features, like intelligent noise cancelling for video calls, a screen recorder, and Samsung Studio Plus for video editing. There are also features like Quick Share for sharing files quickly with other Galaxy devices, easy Bluetooth connection for Galaxy-branded accessories, and a "second-screen" feature that lets users use a Galaxy tablet to expand the display of their laptop. A lot of the company's smartphone apps and services also come with the laptops, including the PENUP app for drawing and sharing creations with other users, a SmartThings app and SmartThings Find, and more.
Rounding out the specs, the Galaxy Book Pro family comes with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage, depending on which model you get. The 13-inch models have a 63Wh battery, while the 15-inch variants have a 68Wh unit, and all of them come with a 65W fast charger, which can also be used to fast charge your Samsung Galaxy phone. They all come with 720p HD webcams, AKG-tuned speakers with Dolby Atmos support. Samsung has also improved the keyboard on the laptops and made the touchpad bigger.
The Galaxy Book Pro family is available for pre-order today, and it will begin shipping on May 14. The Galaxy Book Pro starts at $999.99 for the 13-inch model, and $1,099.99 for the 15-inch variant. The Galaxy Book Pro 360 starts at $1,199 and $1,399, respectively, for each of the size options.
