Samsung's oddly-named Milk Music service debuted in early 2014 and has operated on almost all of the company's Galaxy handsets. The app offers category-driven radio that rivals music service giants like Pandora and Slacker. The decision to launch Milk Music might have come across as unusual given the competition in the field but Samsung's most recent decision regarding the service will not.
As of September 22, 2016, Samsung's Milk Music will be no more. The company issued a press statement online announcing the retirement of Milk Music:
"Samsung is sun setting its Samsung Milk Music service in the United States on September 22, 2016.
We have made the strategic decision to invest in a partner model focused on seamlessly integrating the best music services available today into our family of Galaxy devices. We believe that working with partners will accelerate innovation, enhance device sales and provide amazing new experiences for our customers."
The company didn't specify who/what was covered in this "partner model", but Variety says that the company is encouraging users to migrate to Slack once Milk Music is officially retired. Until September 22, Milk Music will continue to operate as usual.
