Almost exactly a year ago at a Galaxy Unpacked event in Brooklyn, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Home, a smart speaker powered by the company's in-house Bixby digital assistant. Since then though, the device has been missing in action. Back in February, CEO DJ Koh was quoted as saying that it will be available in April, but it never arrived.
This week, Samsung held another Unpacked event, and while many expected to hear about the Galaxy Home, it wasn't mentioned (nor was the ill-fated Galaxy Fold). According to a statement that Samsung provided to Engadget though, the smart speaker is still on the way.
"We're continuing to refine and enhance the Galaxy Home prior to launch, and look forward to sharing more with Galaxy fans soon."
As it turns out, the Galaxy Home has the same expected release timeframe as it did when it was first announced: soon. There's still no new release date, but at least we know that the product isn't canceled. In fact, it's probably a good sign that Samsung is trying to put the finishing touches on it before pushing out of the gate. Perhaps it will make an appearance at the next Unpacked event in the spring.
