Samsung's TV Plus streaming service used to be available only on the company's TV brands before it launched on certain Galaxy smartphones last year, ranging from the Galaxy S10 series to the Note 20 series. Now, the streaming platform has gained another expansion.
TV Plus is now available on the web, meaning you can have access to ad-supported streaming content beyond Samsung's family of mobile devices and smart TVs. As Protocol noted, Samsung rolled out the service to the web back in May with casting support for Chromecast-compatible devices.
A Samsung representative apparently confirmed the release, although the South Korean tech giant did not publicly announce the expansion. The streaming service has been available on Samsung's smart TV since 2016, prior to its mobile launch.
In terms of regional expansion, TV Plus arrived in India and nine European countries earlier this year following its debut in Brazil, Australia, and Mexico. In total, the service is live in 23 countries to date. The recent expansions introduced a broad range of content that's available to browse including sports, news, gaming, and cooking to a wider audience.
The latest move suggests that Samsung is looking to raise its stakes in the streaming space, taking on the likes of Roku and Peacock. It remains to be seen, though, how its web availability will grow its user base, which is currently limited to Samsung customers.
