Rare today detailed the next-gen enhancements it will be bringing to Sea of Thieves next week to coincide with the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles' launch. The upgrades are pointed towards delivering higher frames per second along with far better loading times, but it doesn’t sound as if any exclusive visual upgrades are incoming.
Both the Xbox Series X and Series S will run Sea of Thieves at 60FPS. On the former, it will be rendered at 4K resolution, but on the latter 1080p will be utilized. This is similar to the current-gen console offering, with the Xbox One X delivering 4K and One S coming with 1080p, however, both of these only run the game at 30FPS.
On the loading speed side of things, Rare said that "the greater processing power of both new consoles will lead to significantly reduced load times". Although no hard numbers were presented, getting into the game as well as going back and forth from the Ferry of the Damned should be a much faster trip thanks to the SSD.
As Sea of Thieves is a Smart Delivery title, existing owners on Xbox One and Windows 10 will be able to jump onto the Xbox Series X|S version without needing to purchase it again. As usual, the Xbox Game Pass subscription will also grant access to the full game. The 2018-released live-service pirate adventure title has been a massive hit for Microsoft and Rare, with it crossing the 15 million player mark earlier this year.
