Almost three years have passed since Microsoft showed off the very first trailer for Sea of Thieves, and after a rather long technical alpha and a delay from the original 2017 release window, the game has finally released for the Xbox One family of consoles and Windows 10 PCs.
The game has players sailing the high seas on majestic vessels as fearsome (sometimes at least) pirates, who can work with various companies who have come to the Sea of Thieves to make a profit, which range from treasure hunting to finding and returning lost souls of fallen pirates. However, be prepared, as the massive open world is also littered with other pirate crews, who may be seeking to plunder any ships they come across.
Celebrating the launch, Microsoft is hosting launch events across all of its stores in the U.S. The company is even holding a competition that will give away actual 18-carat golden bananas valued at $110,000 to the winners.
In addition to the recently announced Xbox One S Sea of Thieves bundle, for a limited time, all Xbox One X purchases also arrive with a free copy of the adventure title.
Sea of Thieves is now available for immediate purchase and play via the Microsoft Store for $59.99 as an Xbox Play Anywhere title. This means that buying the game on either Windows 10 or Xbox One will grant access to both platforms without any extra charge. The game is also available through the Xbox Game Pass subscription program thanks to Microsoft deciding to put all first-party Xbox One games on the service.
For PC players, remember to grab the newly released drivers optimizing the game from AMD and Nvidia, depending on your GPU manufacturer.
Expect a review of the game from us soon. We are still sailing around the world trying to find everything that the game has to offer.
