Sega Plans Massive New Arcade

In another sign of expansion in Japan's arcade business, Sega recently announced plans to build a sizable new arcade and entertainment facility in Yokohama, southwest of Tokyo. Set for construction in the Minato Mirai 21 entertainment district (which also features Japan's tallest building, the Yokohama Landmark Tower, and one of the world's biggest Ferris wheels), it will cost some 30 billion yen ($273 million) and see completion in March of 2009. The arcade will cover 63,000 square meters of floor space divided into nine floors, part of which will be devoted to a movie theater and other diversions along with the arcade and amusement machines.
