Sega reveals plans to enter the music business.
Sega has announced that its sound development studio, Wave Master, will be establishing two music labels that will be used for releasing music products. Wave Master has been managing the general sound operations for Sega's home console division for the past 15 years. Its operations include the development of new sound technologies, the creation of soundtracks, and copyright management. The studio has also been active in advancing its sound production toward movies and anime since last year, and it is now looking to the general music industry.
From now on, Wave Master will use the label Wave Master Entertainment for releasing music products related to games, anime, and movies. Wave Master will also begin to release singles and albums under the label of Wave Master Artists, and it has signed a distribution deal with the major J-pop music group Avex. The first product under the Wave Master Entertainment label is scheduled for release in November, and the first product under the Wave Master Artists label will be released in October. The two labels will release a combined 11 titles within the year.
