Serious Sam Double D XXL announced for Xbox 360

In 2011, Devolver Digital released three smaller games in the Serious Sam franchise as a clever way to market the release of the first person shooter Serious Sam 3. One of those games was Serious Sam Double D, a side-scroller shooter game for the PC from indie developer Mommy's Best Games.

Now Gamasutra reports that the game is coming to the Xbox 360 in a new version called Serious Sam Double D XXL. Like Serious Sam Double D, this new version is also a bit of a marketing effort as Devolver plans to also release Croteam's Serious Sam 3 for the Xbox 360 and the PS3.

Serious Sam Double D XXL will have a number of improvements from the original, including a new two player co-op mode, more levels and even more guns for the game's unique "stacking" feature. It allows players to stack guns on top of each other for some pretty wild combo firing attacks.

Mommy's Best Games head man Nathan Fouts states that he and the development team will make more than just a port of the PC game for its Xbox 360 incarnation, saying:

It's kind of a lot of work. The big difference is this much more than a straight port, but still less than a full-blown sequel. We had a lot more we wanted to get into the PC version originally but didn't have time. Hopefully we can squeeze it all in here.

There's no word on when Serious Sam Double D XXL will be released.
