Slime Rancher and Bayonetta are now free with Xbox Games with Gold

August is upon us and right on schedule, Microsoft is back with two more free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. The open-world farming simulator, Slime Rancher for Xbox One, as well as the popular hack and slash title by Platinum Games, Bayonetta for Xbox 360, are now available to claim for free. The latter is also accessible on Xbox One consoles through backward compatibility.

The aforementioned games' store links and descriptions are as follows:

Slime Rancher (Xbox One, August 1 - 31)

Slime Rancher is the tale of Beatrix LeBeau, a plucky, young rancher who sets out for a life a thousand light years away from Earth on the ‘Far, Far Range’ where she tries her hand at making a living wrangling slimes. With a can-do attitude, plenty of grit, and her trusty vacpack, Beatrix attempts to stake a claim, amass a fortune, and avoid the continual peril that looms from the rolling, jiggling avalanche of slimes around every corner!

Bayonetta (Xbox 360, August 1 - 15)

From the creative geniuses behind Devil May Cry and Resident Evil comes Bayonetta™, a game of 100% pure, unadulterated, climatic action. With powers far beyond the comprehension of mere mortals, our heroine Bayonetta fights countless enemies, evil forces and giant foes in brutal yet graceful ways.

For those who missed it, Runbow from last month's promotion is available to claim until August 15 for Xbox One owners. Be sure to check out our interview with Runbow's level designer, Justin Fernandes of 13AM Games, in which he speaks at length on how the developer came up with game's concept, difficulties of porting the game between platforms, and other interesting tidbits.

Also, Microsoft is adding seven new games to its Xbox Game Pass program today, bolstering its current list of over a hundred games with titles such as Dirt Rally, Limbo, and more.

Keep in mind that only claimed Xbox 360 games will remain playable if the Gold subscription is discontinued, unlike claimed Xbox One games, which are only accessible with an active subscription.
