Sling TV's "Stay in & SLING" initiative was launched earlier this month to provide free access to news and entertainment to customers stuck at home due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Today, Sling TV rolled out free news content to Amazon Fire TV users through its 'Live' feature as a part of that effort.
Customers can now access Sling TV's live news content from ABC News Live, FOX News, select local FOX affiliates, and Cheddar News through the Fire TV. This free offering is available in the U.S. starting today and users can open it by going to the Live tab.
Warren Schlichting, group president of Sling TV, said:
"With social distancing recommendations extended nationally, we are working find new ways to help serve the public as it continues to shelter in place. Free, live news on Fire TV is yet another avenue we can tap to deliver immediate, free access to vital information."
Existing Sling TV subscribers can access free content from within the user interface on any compatible device without changing their subscription. Assuming you're new to the service, you must first download the app on Fire TV and then head over to the "Explore Free Content" option to access the free tier. After that, the free Sling TV content will appear in the Live tab.
