Solectron Corporation (NYSE: SLR), the world's leading provider of electronics manufacturing and supply-chain management services, said today that its Global Services business unit will provide after-sales service and support for the Microsoft Xbox video game console in North America. Financial terms of agreement were not disclosed.
Under the agreement, Solectron Global Services will handle all North American warranty and non-warranty repair, and refurbishment for Microsoft's future-generation video-game console, which is scheduled to be introduced in North America Nov. 15.
"We are excited to begin this partnership with Microsoft," said Bill Mitchell, executive vice president and president, Solectron Global Services. "We believe we were selected because of our established repair and logistics infrastructure, and our ability to offer the responsiveness, flexibility, and quality essential to support Microsoft's service needs. We are proud to work with Microsoft and hope to expand our relationship over time."
Solectron expects to service Xbox at its fast-depot repair centers in Memphis, Tenn.; Toronto, Canada; and Guadalajara, Mexico. Those facilities provide the fast-turnaround and rapid response times essential to service products, such as laptop and desktop computers, cell phones, and advanced telecommunications and networking equipment, all of which contain information vital to the product's end user.
