Over the past few days, Google has been facing a plethora of problems related to its products and services. The most severe was the WPA2 vulnerability which left more than 50 percent of Android devices running version 6.0 or higher at risk.
Lately, some users have reported issues with the Google Pixel not receiving text messages on their devices. They can send text messages to their contacts, but the incoming texts are not working for most of the users. The issue has apparently been present for some time, but came under the limelight recently in the product forums. It was first reported by a Verizon subscriber with a Pixel XL on Android 8.0 Oreo. The user stated that text messages were not coming through, neither on Google Messages nor Verizon Message+. What's even more surprising is that the texts are coming in just fine on Verizon Message+ installed on linked Android devices and tablets.
Since the aforementioned post, a number of other Pixel users also reported the same problem, but most of them didn't specify if they were experiencing the issue only on Verizon or on other carriers as well, which makes it hard to tell if this problem is limited to a single mobile operator. A selected few also reported that the issues were present on their devices even before they upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo.
Orrin, a Community Manager on the Pixel User Community left a message on the thread, stating: .
Hey all,
Thanks for all of the reports. The team is aware of this issue and working towards a fix. Some of you have mentioned that rebooting or factory resetting the device resolved the issue. Definitely try to reboot, and if you do factory reset, make sure all of your data/info is backed up.
I'll keep you all posted!
A permanent fix is not available at the moment, but you can try rebooting your device, as it worked for some users - if only for a limited time. A factory reset is another option, but users report that the issue comes back after a few days.
