Sony has announced a date for a price cut of the PS2 in Australia, but was unable to give any date for a European price slash. Over the past month the console has been cut in price in the US, and now its Australia's turn. At the moment the console retails for AUD 249.45, but as of tomorrow, this will be cut to AUD 199.95.
This price cut will happen on the same day that Nintendo's newly designed DS hits Australian shores, which will also be priced at AUD 199.95. Speaking to gamesindustry.biz a Sony spokesperson could not comment whether a similar price cut would happen across Europe stating, "We are not aware of any price cuts for the PlayStation 2 for the immediate future in the UK".
The UK launch for the DS Lite is June 23rd, could the lucky European public get a similar price cut for the PS2? We will have to wait and see.
