Sony is denying that it has recalled any Playstation Is in Europe, despite reports to the contrary in the Taiwanese press. The Taiwan Economic News had said three suppliers of cables for the PlayStation I may take the rap for exporting cadmium rich product to Europe which could have cost sales of $320 million.
But David Reece, European marketing manager at Sony, said that there was absolutely no recall of the parts, and that the case had followed the impounding of some components by Dutch customs. Dutch customs had claimed that there was excess cadmium in some of the components - a claim that Sony had denied after testing them itself - and Reece said the situation had been solved by sourcing the particular components from other suppliers.
