Sony has officially unveiled its wireless charging case and charging plate for its flagship device, the Xperia Z2. While the handset has yet to reach the United States, those in the UK will soon be able to purchase two new accessories that will bring wireless charging capabilities to the stylish handset.
The WCR12 wireless charging cover is a flip / book style unit that not only protects your device from accidental damage, but also acts as a kickstand. The case can prop up your Xperia Z2 for easy viewing while watching movies, browsing the web, or playing games.
The WCH10 is a wireless charging plate that relies on Qi (chee) wireless charging technology. The small circular plate is accented with a chrome bezel and measures roughly three inches in diameter. The charging plate is compatible not only with the Xperia Z2, but other Qi compatible devices like the Nexus 5 and Lumia 1020.
Although wireless charging hasn’t quite taken off, it’s still a highly convenient feature that I hope we see in more devices going forward. While Nokia has been a huge advocate of wireless charging, other manufacturers have been less enthusiastic about adopting the charging technology.
Sony has not yet announced pricing or availability for the WCR12 and WCH10.
