"Ladies and Gentlemen:
You've undoubtedly all heard about the Slammer worm. The SQL Server team hasn't slept in ... what is it, two weeks now? Among other things, we've been working with customers helping them through getting their servers patched, and we've also been building a new set of utilities to make the patching process as painless as possible.
For the first two versions of these utilities we've been working with a small number of companies one-on-one to get feedback on these utilities. We're getting ready to release the third (and potentially final) iteration of these tools and we would like to get your feedback. Most of you are among our top two hundred and fifty SQL Server Beta customers of all time - we only want the very best for such an important beta!
This beta will be short – we're looking at only four (maybe five) days, including the weekend! Unfortunately, that means that many of you won't have an opportunity to test these tools at all – but it is absolutely crucial that we get these new tools out to our customers. If you can find the time to help test this software I would be most appreciative.
The first tool – and the one we would like to see the most focus on, is the SQL Critical Update Wizard. This is a new tool focused on the home user and small business. This wizard walks users through the steps of inspecting and updating a computer. I just ran it myself and it's extraordinarily simple. This file is currently available on www.betaplace.com. We may provide access to a few more of the utilities we're working on later today or as late as Monday."
excited? I sure am.
