While Square Enix severed its ties with IO Interactive last month, the publisher has now announced a new partnership with People Can Fly for developing a new AAA game. The Polish developer is responsible for co-developing a number of Gears of War titles as well as the humorous 2011 shooter Bulletstorm, which recently received a remaster.
No real details regarding the game were revealed in the announcement, only that the new game will be a "high-end original title for console and PC". However, looking at the studio's previous projects, the new title has a large possibility of being a shooter. Another possibility is a Marvel superhero game, as Square Enix announced a partnership with the media giant earlier this year.
Square Enix London studio head Lee Singleton said the company is excited to work with People Can Fly, adding that “We’re building a game we all want to play which will be the perfect addition to our portfolio.”
“We’ve got a great and experienced team in place, and it’s incredible to be working with Square Enix, a world-class publisher who shares our passion and excitement for the project,” People Can Fly studio head Sebastian Wojciechowski said in the statement.
Lastly, something of note is that this new project will not be featured in Square Enix's upcoming E3 lineup, meaning we may have to wait a while before the publisher presents more details.
