LG has announced that its smart TVs are gaining access to Google's cloud gaming service later this year. Stadia, which has been publicly available since late 2019, will then be available straight from LG TVs, making it easier for users to start playing without connecting any other devices. LG introduced its lineup of premium TVs for 2021 earlier today, which will also support Stadia.
As LG notes, Stadia is currently over to over 130 games, including some major releases like Cyberpunk 2077. Being available directly on the TV means that, as long as you have a controller to play and a solid internet connection, you shouldn't have to worry about anything else. All the processing is done in the cloud, so the power of your TV isn't all that relevant.
Stadia has slowly been expanding in terms of availability, having first debuted on the Chromecast Ultra included with the Stadia Founders Edition, along with some Android phones and the web. Recently, iOS support was added, and the service also expanded to more regions. This should also make the integration with LG TVs useful for customers in more markets.
Slow as it may have been, Google's service has expanded to more devices than Microsoft's equivalent, which is still only available on Android. The service is expected to expand this year, and given Microsoft's long-standing partnership with Samsung, it wouldn't be surprising to see a similar deal between the two companies at some point.
