Bethesda Softworks has once again proven to the billions of Star Trek fans worldwide that they do, indeed care about the franchise. Bethesda, after releasing one of the best PC RPG's in recent memory in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, continue to impress by announcing today that they have secured the voice talents of all five of the actors who have portrayed a Captain in the Star Trek universe. This marks the first time in any game project that all five of the actors will be involved and lend their incredible voice talent in one game.
So let's recap. This year marks the 40th anniversary of Star Trek as a whole. Bethesda, all ready to satisfy the inner-Trekkie in all of us go out and nab William Shatner (Captain James T. Kirk), Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Avery Brooks (Captain Benjamin Lafayette Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway) and last but not least Scott Bakula (Captain Jonathan Archer) for the upcoming Star Trek: Legacy for Xbox 360 and PC. I'd love to be working at Mad Doc Software right now let me tell you. They are one lucky development house!
And for those of you who don't know what Legacy is, let me explain a bit. Legacy will allow you to control up to 60 fully modeled starships from the Star Trek universe with full damage modeling and of course awesome visual effects. You will play an Admiral in charge of a fleet of ships, and will compete in both single and multiplayer action. The storyline for Legacy will span the entire universe of Star Trek, from the Original Series to Star Trek Enterprise and is being written by DC Fontana herself, which was only recently announced just last week.
What else can I say? I'm a hardcore Trek guy as most of you know, so this is incredible news. I usually loathe RTS games, but I'll find time to play this I think.
