EA announced Star Wars: Squadrons earlier this week with a cinematic trailer that set the stage for the first-person space dogfighting game. Today during the EA Play Live event, EA Motive, the developer, showcased gameplay of the upcoming multi-platform title. Catch the almost six-minute trailer above, which provides some deep details on the ships variants, game modes, customization options, and much more.
In addition to the campaign that will follow two customizable protagonists from the Empire and the New Republic, Squadrons offers a 5v5 multiplayer side with various game modes like Fleet Battles that offer tactical objectives to take as well as more freeform battles in Dogfight.
Instead of a HUD, players will have to keep an eye on their starfighter's instrument panel to get feedback on their power levels, shields, weapon status, and others. There are multiple ship classes as well, including Fighters (TIE Fighter, X-Wing), Interceptors (The Interceptor, A-Wing), Supports (Tie Reaper, U-Wing), and Bombers (TIE bomber, Y-Wing).
There aren't any microtransactions in the game either, with all of the ship upgrades and cosmetic items unlocking with gameplay. Virtual reality play support is included for PC and PlayStation 4 players who have VR headsets, with the developer going on to confirm full joystick and HOTAS support for the title.
Star Wars: Squadrons is heading to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 on October 2 priced at $39.99. The PC version will be available simultaneously through Origin, Steam, and Epic Games Store. Moreover, cross-platform multiplayer will be enabled across all platforms.
