One of the most iconic games of the classic era, the popular space exploration and combat simulator Star Control is being resurrected courtesy of Stardock, which acquired the rights to the franchise two years ago. While a reboot had been confirmed by Stardock CEO Brad Wardell, we now have more concrete information on the game, along with some of the game art.
Based on the same engine powering Stardock's latest game, Ashes of Singularity, development of the game will be headed up by a newly minted development studio in Towson Maryland.
The entire team is made up of industry veterans," said Wardell. "The engine, planetary terrain, character artists, ship designs and more have come from former leads of Civilization V {Firaxis is located in Towson Maryland as well}.
Moreover, the company is finally confident enough about the game's progress that it's inviting the first few fans to take an inside peek at what the future of the game will look like. While the members of this Founder's Program will be bound by various NDAs, they will be entitled to a myriad of exclusive content in the course of the development of the game:
The Founder's program is intended for fans of the series who want to be part of the development process," said Brad Wardell, President & CEO of Stardock. "They'll get access to NDA materials including next year's prototype, alpha, beta, the release and all expansions and DLC we make for the game.
Those interested in signing up for the Founder's Program may do so by filling out a survey here.
