Stardock's Ashes of the Singularity universe is expanding this year with Siege of Centauri, a brand new tower defense game that sends players to a new colony in Proxima Centauri to defend it from an invading and unrelenting alien force.
Here's how the studio described the upcoming title:
As the Commander of the Carpathia, you must determine the best strategy to defend the colony against the tens of thousands of alien machines that are approaching the colony. Each victory against the enemy expands the colony to a new part of the planet which is met by an increasing aggression by the enemy.
The announcement added that the game will combine familiar tower defense mechanics with what's possible with the Ashes of the Singularity engine. Stardock General Manager Derek Paxton said the development team got the idea for the new title while working on Ashes of the Singularity, asking themselves "With the engine's ability to handle tens of thousands of units, could we design the ultimate tower defense game?"
There will be 16 missions at launch that increase in difficulty as players progress through them, along with an endless mode that will keep spitting hordes of aliens at the player. As expected, plenty of customizable towers that can be used to wipe out the alien menace using weapons such as cannon beams and arc lightning will also be present.
Siege of Centauri doesn't have a firm release date just yet, but it is soon launching as an early access title for $10.
