In what will either be incredibly exciting or incredibly infuriating news to Halo fans worldwide, the Halo TV series that was announced way back in 2013 is apparently still in active development at Showtime.
At a recent Television Critics' Association press tour, Showtime CEO and President David Nevins reiterated that the live-action series was "still in very active development". His head of programming further added,
[It is] still moving forward and I’m encouraged by what we’ve seen so far. It’s still live action, and it will definitely satisfy the fans of Halo and I think also satisfy the drama audiences of Showtime.”
Of course, a big budget TV production that is expected to be helmed by none other than Steven Spielberg should be cause for celebration for any long-standing fan of the franchise. That excitement may soon turn to frustration, however, when they realise the people behind the project have been saying the same thing for the past five years. Indeed, Nevins' comments on the same two years ago stating the series was in "very active development" mirror his words today almost verbatim.
Neither Showtime executive provided an ETA for when we can expect to see Cortana make the transition from our Xbox to the TV, suggesting the project is, for all intents and purposes, in development hell - or, at least, purgatory.
