As it often does, Microsoft has released a new firmware update for its Surface devices, specifically the first and second generations of the Surface Laptop. This time, there's only a single update, and it's the same for both devices. The single update is focused on improving the reliability of charging the devices' battery:
Windows Update History Name | Device Manager Name | Version and Update |
---|---|---|
Surface - Firmware - 145.603.139.0 | Surface System Aggregator - Firmware |
145.603.139.0
|
Battery smart charging is a feature on Surface devices that helps slow down battery degradation over time. When devices detect they're plugged into an outlet for extended periods of time, the maximum charging capacity is reduced to avoid depleting the battery's ability to hold a charge. Surface devices have a couple of features in place to help prevent battery degradation, which you can learn more about here.
The new firmware update should be available for everyone who has a Surface Laptop or Surface Laptop 2, so long as they're running Windows 10 version 1903 or newer. It should install automatically, but you can check for updates manually in Windows Update if you want it right away.
