Surface Pro and Book devices get new firmware and driver updates

Over the past couple of weeks, many of Microsoft's Surface devices have received some form of firmware and driver updates, from the 2018 Surface Go to the recently-launched Surface Duo. Now, the first and second generations of the Surface Book, as well as the fifth and sixth generations of the Surface Pro, are also getting their own sets of updates.

For either generation of the Surface Book, there's a single update for the GPU, and it's pretty much identical for both generations. Here's what's new:

Surface Book 2:

  • Addresses security updates and improves system stability.

As for the Surface Pro line, the Surface Pro 5th Gen is only getting a firmware update to improve the reliability of Smart Battery Charging, similar to the update for the Surface Laptop 1 and 2 that was released a few days ago.

Finally, the Surface Pro 6 is getting a similar update, as well as an additional one that improves the device's stability in hibernation. Here's the list of updates:

Regardless of the device, all of these updates are available for users running the Windows 10 May 2019 Update or newer, or version 1903 and up. There's no indication that this specific release is a gradual rollout, so you should be able to see it in Windows Update if you check for updates now.
