Surface Pro gets an update to improve battery stability

Today, Microsoft is releasing a firmware update for its newest Surface Pro devices. The update is available for Model 1796 and Model 1807, which are the Wi-Fi-only model and the LTE variant, respectively. It's supported on Windows 10 version 1703 and higher, so in other words, this update is going out to every Surface Pro that exists.

Here's what's new:

Windows Update History Name

Device Manager Name

Surface – Firmware – 234.2317.257.0

Surface System Aggregator – Firmware

  • 234.2317.257.0 improves battery stability.

Microsoft didn't provide a value indicator chart like it normally does, but this update is very similar to the ones that were released last week for the Surface Pro 3 and Surface Pro 4. According to the charts on those, this update will improve security, with no effect on reliability, battery life, connectivity, compatibility, or performance.

As usual, you can install today's update via Windows Update, either automatically or you can do it through Settings. You can also download the firmware and driver bundle for your device. You can get the Wi-Fi-only bundle here and the LTE bundle here.
