In February, T-Mobile announced it would be the exclusive U.S. carrier for the Nokia Lumia 521, a variant of the Nokia Lumia 520 smartphone. Today, T-Mobile finally announced that the Lumia 521 would go on sale sometime in May in its own stores, along with Microsoft's retail store locations and at Walmart stores.
The press release also announced a few more hardware specs for the Lumia 521, including that it will have a four inch screen, a five megapixel camera and support for 720p HD video recording. The standard Lumia 520 has 512MB of RAM and a 1 GHz dual-core processor and we suspect that will be the same for the Lumia 521.
However, today's press release did not give a specific release date in May for the smartphone nor any word on pricing. T-Mobile recently announced it was doing away with the standard two year contract model for its smartphones. Instead is is now letting customers pay up front for part of the phone's price and then pay off the rest of the phone's cost, interest free, over time. The Nokia Lumia 520 was designed to be a relatively cheap phone so we can expect the price of the T-Mobile Lumia 521 to be on the low side.
