Google announced that users can now add second step methods such as Google Authenticator or a security key before enabling 2-Step Verification (2SV) on their Google Account with a phone number.

To encourage the use of 2-step verification (2SV), Google has stated that there was a 50% decrease in accounts with 2SV enabled being compromised compared to those who don't have it configured.
