After Imagination accused Apple of not warning it early enough that they would be parting ways, Apple responded today that it informed the company of its plan to develop its own GPU back in February.

After almost a decade, it appears that Apple and Imagination, responsible for the PowerVR GPUs used in Apple products, may part ways with the news wiping over 60% off the chip designer's stock price.
Imagination Technologies has begun licensing its new PowerVR Series8XE Plus GPUs to manufacturers. The chip will bring VR capabilities to low and mid-range Android smartphones in the $200-$400 range.
