Ofcom has confirmed that it's removing the fax service requirements from the universal service obligation. This should lower costs for BT and KCOM who had to offer fax services affordably.

Ofcom has said it wants to change the universal service obligation (USO) so that telecoms providers no longer need to support fax machines. The USO has not been updated since 2003.
Ofcom's research should that one in five have been struggling to keep up with their telecom bills. It has called on broadband providers to offer tariffs for those living on a low income.
