Google Map Maker was launched in 2008 to allow users to edit maps, or add places to (Google) Maps in places where the map data wasn't sufficient. However, the company closed the service on March 31.

Google is reopening its Map Maker service in the next few weeks. Google closed the service after some mischievous edits, but have now created a system to prevent those events from occurring.
