Microsoft has posted word on its private Microsoft 365 admin center that the classic Teams app for Windows and Mac will automatically update to the new Teams app after March 31, 2024
Microsoft has made the new Windows Teams app for both Windows and Mac generally available, with better overall performance and a streamlined user interface, among other features and improvements.
A new update to the Microsoft 365 admin center site states that the company plans to roll out the Mac client for the new Teams app sometime later in September, with its improvements in performance.
The new version of Microsoft Teams for Windows will support side-by-side windows so users can quickly switch from one chat group or tenant in a business to another group in the same organization.
Anupam Pattnaik, Microsoft's Product Lead for the new Teams version, also confirmed in a podcast interview it would expand to Mac, the web, and VDI platforms sometime later in 2023.
The new Microsoft Teams desktop app will feature several security improvements, including using MSIX packages and App Installer for deployment and faster updates with Edge WebView2 runtime.
The new version of Microsoft Teams for Windows on the desktop is now available as a public preview, with new features alongside performance improvements, and more will be revealed Tuesday.
