As promised, HMD Global took the wraps off of the new Nokia 2.2, a smartphone running Android Pie promising to bring AI features to everyone, thanks to a price point starting at €99.

HMG Global has unleashed a flurry of software updates for its phones today, bringing Android Pie to the 2017 Nokia 6, as well for the Indian variant of the Nokia 8. The Nokia 2 can now get Oreo, too.
HMD Global's Nokia 2 is the most notable exception to the company's promise of timely Android updates, so much so that it will only be getting Oreo this year as an optional download.
At an event in Moscow today, HMD Global went on stage to reveal the refreshed versions of its lower-end smartphones, the Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5. The Nokia X6 was not mentioned at the event.
HMD Global has confirmed that the budget-friendly Nokia 2 will be updated to Android 8.1 Oreo directly, and will come with Android Go's memory management tweaks to boost performance.
Nokia 2 is now available for pre-order at major retailers, including Best Buy, Amazon and B&H, in the United States carrying a $99 price tag. The handset is expected to get the Oreo update very soon.
