Today, Microsoft announced an improvement that it's making to its Edge browser that will stop websites from asking you for permission to send push notifications. You'll have to turn it on manually.
This week, Microsoft announced that it's shutting down push notifications for devices running Windows Phone 7.5 and Windows Phone 8.0, as both platforms are unsupported. Windows Phone 8.1 is safe.
