The owner of Ringing Bells, the Indian company that promised to launch a sub $5 smartphone for the masses has been arrested for defrauding distributors and not delivering on promises.

Ringing Bells said it would ship 200,000 units of its $4 smartphone this week - but it's shipped just 5,000, and says it may not deliver more unless the government can provide funding of $7.4 billion.
The Freedom 251 was unveiled in February amid a wave of doubt and confusion, but it will finally start shipping to buyers on June 30, although its manufacturer will make a loss on each unit sold.
