Microsoft quietly added a major feature to its new Photos app on Windows 11. The software now supports the WebP image format, which is said to more efficient that older, more common formats.

Linux Lite 6.4, a lightweight distribution, has been released. It features WebP support in the Thunar file manager and ZTSD compression but it does ship with a slightly older Linux kernel.
LibreOffice 7.4 has been released to the public. It can be downloaded on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It now includes WebP image support and comes with better Microsoft Office compatibility.
Cloudflare has added support for the AVIF image format to its Image Resizing service. AVIF is only supported by Opera and Chrome right now but brings big improvements to image compression.
Mozilla has released the next version of its Firefox web browser. In Firefox 65, users can better control their online privacy and gain access to newly introduced support for WebP and the AV1 codec.
Google says that it is rolling out support of the WebP image format across its websites, including YouTube, claiming that it reduces file sizes as well as load time for web pages.
