WhatsApp has announced that its new app for Windows is now live. It ditches the web-based Electron framework in favor of Windows-native Universal Windows Platform (UWP) technologies.

The Meta-owned messenger gets regular updates, and if you like living on the edge, the Beta UWP app for Windows receives new features first, like today, with some fancy chat formatting options.
Design concepts of what appears to be a UWP version of WhatsApp seem to point to a partnership between Microsoft and Facebook to port the Silverlight app over from Windows Phone 8.
