Taiwan makers gear up for launch of Woodcrest boards

Following the June 26 launch of the Intel Xeon 5100 series processors (formerly codenamed Woodcrest), Taiwan-based motherboard makers Asustek Computer, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), Gigabyte Technology, Micro-Star International (MSI), Tyan Computer and Iwill are gearing up for their respective launch of server motherboards based on the dual-core Woodcrest platform between July and August, according to the companies.

ECS will soon kick off volume shipments of its Woodcrest board shipments, whereas Asustek is scheduled to roll out a 1U product in August, said the companies. Tyan said that its upcoming Woodcrest products will mainly target the workstation application. Gigabyte and MSI, respectively, are looking to launch more than five Woodcrest-based server boards and barebones during the latter half of this year, the companies indicated.
