At the start of the year, several Alcatel-branded smartphones were unveiled by TCL at Mobile World Congress 2018 and we also got the opportunity to review the Alcatel 3V back in June. More recently, the Alcatel 1 was released for sale at just $80 which is $20 below the pricing of the 1X handset.
Now, a tablet is set to be introduced into the fold on the T-Mobile network. Billed as the "first-ever 600MHz-capable tablet", the Alcatel 3T 8 will come with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box
As far as major specifications are concerned, the new Alcatel 3T 8 tablet will include an 8-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display with Asahi glass, a 4,080mAh battery, front and rear 5MP cameras, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard storage that can be supplemented by a microSD card of up to 128GB. The unit will also be powered by a MediaTek MT8765A 1.5GHz quad-core processor and come in a metallic black finish.
Perhaps of interest to families will be the built-in "Kids Mode" featuring a parental control panel, enabling the configuration of permitted apps and screen time limits for children while providing peace of mind for grown-ups. The device will also include the CloserTV app, exclusive to Alcatel, that "gathers all of your favorite streaming services, such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video, cable and satellite TV, all in one place"/
With respect to the device's launch, Eric Anderson, General Manager for Alcatel North America said:
"There is a significant need for a device that’s capable of handling work tasks while providing an all-encompassing multimedia experience for the whole family. With the Alcatel 3T 8, you get all of the features you and your family want in a light and simple tablet without paying a premium price."
The Alcatel 3T 8 will be exclusive to T-Mobile in the United States, and will become available for purchase in-store and online from October 12 for $6 upfront plus $6 per month for 24 months, totaling $150 over the period.
