Telegram has announced its latest update which introduces a whole host of new features including message reactions, message translations, themed QR codes, hidden text for spoilers, and more. To learn more about the new features and how to use them, read on.
The first addition is reactions, what’s interesting here is that this feature is very powerful for communicating with others and has been available on Meta's Messenger service for a long time already; usually, we see the copying being done by Meta.
To leave a quick reaction to a message you just double-tap the message, to choose from other reactions, you just tap the message once or press and hold on iOS. To make the feature a little fun, each emoji has a unique animation. It’s possible to change the quick reaction emoji on Android by heading to Chat Settings > Quick Reaction and on iOS by heading to Stickers and Emoji > Quick Reaction.
Next up is the ability to hide text that may spoil a film or other media. When you are typing your message, you can highlight the text you want to hide and tap the Spoiler formatting. The hidden text will not be visible in the chat, chat list, or notifications. To reveal the hidden text, just tap it and it’ll show up.
Probably the most useful feature in this update, by far, is the translation tool. If you head over to Settings > Language and enable Translation, you’ll get a Translate button in each message’s context menu that lets you translate the content to your language from within the app. This feature works on all supported Android versions but iOS users will need to be running iOS 15+.
Next up, we’ve got themed QR codes. These can be obtained for any users, groups, channels, or bots with a public username. To find QR codes, head to the profile’s info page and press the QR code symbol next to the account’s URL. You can then pick the appropriate theme and share it around to point people to the content you want them to see.
Lastly, the context menus on Telegram for macOS have been updated with new shortcut hints and animated icons and several emoji including 🔥 😁 🤩 😢 😭 😱 ❄️ have new full-screen animations.
