As teased last week, publisher Nacon and developer KT Racing (Kylotonn) have officially announced the next entry in a long-running racing game series, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown. You can see the announcement trailer above.
During its Nacon Connect digital event which took place earlier today, the publisher made a point of announcing that the title was officially being worked on. For those not familiar, Solar Crown was the name of the racing cup in Test Drive Unlimited 2, a game which debuted nearly a decade ago.
The good news is that the project is under the stewardship of creative director Alain Jarniou, who was also involved in the creation of the first two Test Drive Unlimited titles. Jarniou emphasized that a series relaunch was required because "there's no real equivalent" for it currently. Furthermore, the freedom of choice was underlined during the presentation as well, with the developer stating that an island - as of yet unknown - was created at a 1:1 scale. "Everything you can see, you can visit", said Jarniou.
Customization of your avatar and various owned cars will of course be returning, with particular attention being given to realism. As such, the tech behind TDU Solar Crown is built upon KT Racing's engine for the WRC series of games.
Unfortunately, neither a specific release date, nor target platforms were shared during the event.
