Earlier this week, Alcatel announced that it would be selling an unlocked model of its IDOL 4S with Windows 10 on the Microsoft Store in the US and Canada. Previously a T-Mobile exclusive, it showed up in the US Store first for $470 USD, but the company later confirmed to Neowin that it would be coming to Canada today.
Indeed, the handset is now available for the price of $619 CAD. Oddly, the Microsoft Store lists the device as having LTE bands 2, 4, and 12 still, which is exactly the same as the T-Mobile-locked model. It's unclear whether this is accurate or if it's simply a mistake in the Store's listing, but we've reached out to Alcatel for clarification. As on the US Store, the listing also states that, in the box, you'll get an "IDOL 5S" - so the attention to detail there is clearly somewhat lacking.
The IDOL 4S with Windows 10 has some unique features; for example, it's the only Windows phone to officially support virtual reality, and it even comes with its own VR headset. It also comes in a metallic glass body with a metal frame, similar to one of Samsung's flagship handsets.
Overall, we were impressed with the IDOL 4S with Windows 10 when we reviewed it; however, its shortcomings were the camera and the lack of NFC. If you're in Canada and you want to pick one up, you can do so here.
