A few weeks ago, Bethesda Softworks announced plans to release Dawnguard, the first expansion pack for its hit 2011 open world fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. While Bethesda said that the expansion would get its first public showing next week at E3 2012, the publisher has now gone ahead and released the first trailer for Dawnguard.
The trailer shows the first footage of gameplay from the expansion, along with a narration that tells the tale of some kind of vampire group who wants to blot out the sun. Naturally, this isn't a good thing. Your character is part of a group called Dawnguard that is out to stop the plans of these vampires.
Dawnguard will be released on the Xbox 360 later this summer for 1600 Microsoft points (about $20) which makes this game more like an old fashioned expansion pack than a smaller DLC pack. The expansion will probably be released for the PS3 and PC at some point but no specific release dates were announced.
Zenimax Online Studios is also working on the MMO game The Elder Scrolls Online. Both that game and Dawnguard should be shown at E3 2012 next week and we will be there to report on both of them.
